One of the unique aspects of ARC’s work are our partnerships with over two dozen extraordinary artists who contribute to our annual Artists for Africa benefit. We’ve been partnering with many of these artists for a decade or more, and invite new artists to join our efforts each year.  These artists are activists and visionaries for Africa: its people, landscapes, and wildlife.  We are continually inspired and humbled by the many projects and initiatives they undertake. Here are a few recent highlights:

Nick Brandt released his new book On this Earth, A Shadow Falls (Big Life Editions, 2010), which contains the 90 best shots from his first two books, with introductions by Jane Goodall, Alice Sebold, Vicki Goldberg, Peter Singer and the artist himself. All copies are signed by the artist. The book is available exclusively through galleries that represent Brandt and can be purchased online through photo-eye Gallery.

Cyril Christo’s and Marie Wilkinson’s latest book Walking Thunder: In the Footsteps of the African Elephant (Merrell 2009) is one of the first manifestos in black and white ever dedicated to a single species in the wild. It placed in the nature category for the Nature Book of the Year at the 2010 International Photography Awards. A documentary based on Walking Thunder, narrated by Ally McGraw, is currently in production. Purchase the book.

Dr. Joe Zammit-Lucia and his stunning photographs are featured in the cover story of the August edition of Double Exposure.  Zammitt-Lucia describes his aim of creating images that are counter-cultural as a way of “jolting people out of complacent and established views about animals and the human animal relationship.” Read the article
